Sergey Cheremin: Biometric Fare Payment Successfully Implemented in the Moscow Metro

Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, spoke at the 17th Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona, held in the UAE, highlighting the successful implementation of biometric fare payment in the Moscow Metro.

“Those who live in Moscow can install the relevant app, take a photo, and grant permission to use their biometric data — and then enter the metro without using a phone, cash, or a credit card,” noted Sergey Cheremin during the session “The Challenge of New Technologies: From Digitalization to Medicine.”

Biometric fare payment was launched in the Moscow Metro in 2021. As of October 2024, this method has been used for over 125 million rides. On average, about 160,000 metro entries are made daily using biometric payment.
