Ceremonial Event at the Simón Bolívar Monument in Moscow

On June 24, an official ceremony was held at the monument to Venezuela’s national hero, Simón Bolívar, in Moscow, commemorating the 204th anniversary of the Battle of Carabobo and the 76th anniversary of the Bolivarian National Army. The event, organized by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Russian Federation, brought together members of the diplomatic corps and government officials.

During the ceremony, Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, was awarded the Order of the Liberator, Second Class—one of Venezuela’s highest honors for contributions to bilateral partnership.

In his speech, Sergey Cheremin emphasized the significance of the Simón Bolívar monument: “This memorial has become a true symbol of the strong and enduring friendship between Moscow and Venezuela—a friendship tested by time and a shared history of cooperation.”

A symbolic reciprocal gesture was made this year with the inauguration of Victory Square and the “80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War Over Nazism and Fascism” monument in Caracas. Erected in the year marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the monument honors the hoisting of the Victory Banner over the Reichstag. At its base burns an Eternal Flame, a fragment of which was brought from Moscow’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden.

Reflecting on the award, Cheremin remarked: “Receiving this Order today for fostering friendship between our peoples serves as an impetus to further advance joint projects for the common good of our nations.”

The strengthening of Russian-Venezuelan ties is further evidenced by regular high-level exchanges. In just the first five months of 2025, Moscow hosted official delegations from Venezuela’s Minister of Public Works and Deputy Minister of Culture, underscoring the growing momentum in cooperation and expanded collaboration in humanitarian and infrastructure fields.

This event reaffirmed the enduring and strategic depth of the partnership between Moscow and Caracas, rooted in mutual respect, the preservation of historical memory, and a shared commitment to progress.

The Simón Bolívar monument was installed in Moscow under a cultural cooperation agreement between the two capitals. It was unveiled on July 25, 2023, with high-level representatives from both countries in attendance.
