On April 10, the House of Latin America hosted the presentation of the upcoming Latin American and Caribbean Culture Festival, an annual event traditionally organized by the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow in collaboration with the Department of Culture of Moscow, the Russian State Film Fund, the Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, Latin American embassies, and the autonomous non-profit organization “House of Latin America.”
The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions and diplomats from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, Chile, and Ecuador. Representatives from Moscow Government agencies, the National Committee for Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries, as well as Russian cultural, public, educational, and scientific institutions were also present.
Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External and International Relations addressed the audience during the festival program presentation.
“International cooperation, particularly in humanitarian and cultural spheres, has never been more important or valuable. Latin America and the Caribbean represent one of the world’s most significant regions and, crucially for us, a key international partner for Moscow,” emphasized Cheremin.
Yulia Surilova, Director of the House of Latin America, delivered welcoming remarks, followed by speeches from Yulia Bragina, Director of the Russian State Film Fund Department, representatives of the Rudomino Library, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, diplomatic corps members, and other distinguished guests.
The annual Latin American and Caribbean Culture Festival will take place in Moscow from July 20 to 27, 2024. The Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations is currently developing the event format in collaboration with Latin American embassies to create a fresh program.
On July 20-21, festival attendees at the Hermitage Garden will enjoy folk dances, music performances, traditional costume shows, workshops, and thematic lectures.
The program will once again feature the Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival. The House of Latin America will present the art project “Russia – Latin America: Design Across Continents,” focusing on fashion and style, as part of the outdoor festival activities in the Hermitage Garden.
The festival promises to be a highlight of Moscow’s cultural calendar, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and introducing them to the vibrant, distinctive cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2023, the two-day festival drew over 50,000 attendees. The event is held with the support of the Government of Moscow.
