Moscow Hosts Opening of International Transport Summit

On August 24, 2023, the International Transport Summit commenced in Moscow, focusing on the development of transport infrastructure in the world’s largest megacities. The event was organized by the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow and the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow.

The opening ceremony was attended by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development; Roman Latypov, First Deputy Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development; and Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations.

“Regional cooperation has become one of the most crucial elements of international relations today. This is clearly demonstrated by our collaboration with megacities across all continents. Active engagement with foreign partners – now numbering over 150 – is a key priority for the Moscow Government. City diplomacy, which plays a vital role in strengthening national economies, facilitates the exchange of best practices in municipal governance, the adoption of cutting-edge solutions, and the promotion of cultural and humanitarian dialogue,” emphasized Sergey Cheremin.

Over the coming days, city leaders, ministers, and heads of transport and technology companies from Europe, South and Central America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa will present global best practices in the transport sector. Discussions will focus on technological and transport development, as well as sharing expertise on implementing innovative urban mobility solutions.

Participants will have a unique opportunity to explore Moscow’s achievements in urban transport and related digital technologies, with visits to key transport facilities in the capital.

During the summit, representatives from Moscow, Beijing, and Manila signed a transport cooperation agreement, launching their joint work on the UrbanTransportData project.
