Moscow Delegation Strengthens Cooperation with Algeria in Transport, Culture, and Ecology
From January 27 to 31, 2025, a Moscow delegation led by Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, visited Algeria in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Moscow Government and the Wilaya of Algiers. The visit coincided with the 12th session of the Russian-Algerian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, as well as negotiations to coordinate joint initiatives for 2025 and expand collaboration in urban infrastructure, public transport, culture, education, and digital technologies.
The Moscow Center for International Cooperation provided organizational support for the visit.
During the trip, the Moscow delegation met with Algiers Governor Abdelnafi Rabhi, who expressed interest in further knowledge exchange regarding transport infrastructure modernization, including fleet renewal, traffic management, and innovative solutions to enhance public transport safety.
The Governor also thanked Moscow for organizing a performance by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra “Musica Viva” at the closing ceremony of the 13th International Festival of Symphonic Music and expressed hope for the ensemble’s participation in the next festival, scheduled for April 2025.
Following negotiations, both parties agreed to develop joint initiatives in cultural heritage preservation, cultural projects, and economic cooperation, as well as to organize Moscow-led cultural and business events in Algeria in 2025.
In a meeting with Nadhiba Djilali, Algeria’s Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, discussions focused on cooperation in eco-friendly transport, housing renovation programs, and green space development.
During talks with Said Saioud, Algeria’s Minister of Transport, and Lakhdar Rekhroukh, Minister of Basic Infrastructure and Public Works, Algerian officials expressed interest in studying Moscow’s expertise in designing transport hubs and digitizing urban transport systems.
