Moscow held a conference on the interaction of regions with compatriots

The conference “Interaction with compatriots abroad at the regional level of the Russian Federation” was held in Moscow on October 31, 2023. The event was held within the framework of the World Thematic Conference of Compatriots.

The organizers were the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, the Moscow House of Compatriots and the Moscow Center for International Cooperation (MCIC). The MCIC provided technical support for the event.

The conference brought together compatriots from more than 20 countries. Representatives of 20 regions of Russia participated in the discussion in face-to-face and online format. Members of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots joined the discussion.

Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow opened the conference. The Minister noted that Moscow closely cooperates with organizations of compatriots in more than 60 countries around the world, and this interaction is one of the important focuses of foreign policy activities. For a long time, Moscow was the only region of Russia where the law on diaspora support was in force. “We are glad that Dagestan has joined us,” Sergei Cheryomin said, expressing hope that other regions of the Russian Federation would follow Dagestan.

The head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow drew attention to the fact that it is interesting and important for compatriots to find out how the Russian regions live and what programs they implement. Sergey Cheryomin told the guests how the Russian capital lives and develops with the presentation “Moscow is a smart sustainable city”.

Representatives of St. Petersburg, the Republics of Crimea, Tatarstan, Altai Territory, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk regions shared their experience of working with compatriots.

The Chairman of the VKS Mikhail Drozdov (China), compatriots from Abkhazia, Tunisia, Armenia, Romania, Moldova, Belarus, and Kazakhstan also delivered speeches.
