Moscow Showcases Achievements at GITEX GLOBAL 2024
A delegation from the Government of Moscow, headed by Sergey Cheremin, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, visited Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to present the capital’s latest advancements at GITEX GLOBAL 2024. Held from October 14 to 18, this major exhibition of information and communication technologies stands as one of the most influential IT industry events in the Middle East.
The Moscow Center for International Cooperation facilitated the organization of Moscow’s exhibition space. Covering 160 square meters, the interactive multimedia display showcased Moscow’s current digital projects and citywide initiatives in high-tech development, digital transformation, and smart-city solutions. The exhibition highlighted innovations across all spheres of urban life, including e-government, digital services for residents, municipal management, education, healthcare, environmental protection, labor resources, security, and ecology.
With support from the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, local entrepreneurs presented cutting-edge technological solutions. Moscow companies specialized in software development and innovative applications spanning virtual reality, biometric systems, business process optimization platforms, neural networks, and video games.
Notable representatives of Moscow’s high-tech sector at the exhibition included VisionLabs with video analytics and biometric solutions; FiveGen with AI-powered detectors for identifying urban infrastructure issues; 42 with virtual laboratories and interactive experiment simulators; NTechLab with facial recognition and video analysis technologies; and NTC Constructor with geoinformation systems and BIM technologies.
The Moscow exhibit opened on October 14 with an official ceremony featuring Sergey Cheremin, who emphasized that realizing Moscow’s export potential remains a key development priority. Cheremin expressed confidence that Moscow’s participation in GITEX GLOBAL 2024 would help expand the international presence of Moscow’s IT companies, noting the capital’s optimistic outlook on strengthening international cooperation.
Moscow businesses continue successfully developing partnerships with the UAE while steadily expanding their presence in this friendly market. In 2023, trade between Moscow and the UAE reached $2.8 billion, with Moscow’s exports accounting for $2.7 billion of this total.
On October 14, Sergey Cheremin participated as a speaker in the event’s business program at the TechTalk platform. His presentation, “Moscow: A Smart and Sustainable City,” showcased how Moscow integrates advanced IT services into urban infrastructure and governance, many of which were represented at Moscow’s exhibition. He highlighted current digital projects transforming all aspects of life in the Russian capital, from e-government and public services to urban management, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and security.
Key innovations mentioned included Moscow’s telemedicine platform, Moscow Electronic School, Moscow Parking system, the city’s digital twin, human resources management systems, the City of Ideas platform, public procurement systems, and taxi service analytics. Cheremin noted that Moscow has established itself as one of the world’s leading and most competitive players in digital transformation.
The exhibition also hosted several bilateral meetings. On October 15, Sergey Cheremin met with Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Dubai Digital Authority, who shared Dubai’s digital transformation strategy and implementation experience. Cheremin noted the significant common ground between Moscow and Dubai, emphasizing both cities’ strong potential for joint projects as Moscow’s ICT sector enters a new phase of technological advancement.
Highlighting their shared digitalization goals and strategic partnership, Cheremin stressed the importance of intensifying contacts and expressed readiness to exchange expertise in key digital areas. He emphasized that Moscow’s digital transformation prioritizes citizen convenience and government efficiency above all.
The same day, Cheremin held talks with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), represented by Vice President Wan Mourdani Wan Mohamad. The discussions covered Moscow’s current economic development and digital transformation of metropolitan management systems, culminating in agreements to exchange information on attracting modern semiconductor production to Russia. Additional meetings included discussions with officials from Sharjah University City, Dubai’s Transport Department, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, and Hadi Badri, CEO of Dubai’s Economic Development and Tourism Department.
Business missions supported by the Government of Moscow provide entrepreneurs with valuable opportunities to establish international contacts and secure export contracts. Following GITEX GLOBAL 2024, participating companies reached preliminary agreements to develop international partnerships.
Entrepreneurs conducted numerous B2B meetings with potential partners, multilateral negotiations, and individual consultations with companies worldwide. Participation in the exhibition allowed Moscow to demonstrate its significant potential in applying IT solutions to urban governance while showcasing the capabilities of Moscow-based companies on the global stage. The event also revealed growing international interest in Moscow’s advanced IT solutions.
This year’s edition set a GITEX record for international participation, attracting over 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups, 1,200 investors, and government representatives from more than 180 countries.
