The Moscow Government visited Thailand
A delegation of the Moscow Government headed by Sergey Cheremin, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, conducted an official visit to Bangkok and Chiang Mai from March 27 to 31 in order to establish partnerships with colleagues from Thailand. During the visit, the delegation had meetings where the parties discussed the exchange of experience in the field of educational technology development.
ANO Moscow Center for International Cooperation acted as the operator of the events held during the visit, providing comprehensive support in organizing the conference, exhibition and meetings of delegates. The work contributed to the successful implementation of the visit program, strengthening international relations and establishing a constructive dialogue between the participants.
The delegation included representatives of MGIMO, MMGU universities, Foxford and Synergy educational organizations. During negotiations with the Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Siam Wansrangbon the issue of cooperation between the two cities, including in the field of education was discussed. Thai colleagues were invited to visit Moscow to take part in annual events, including forums for education, cultural heritage, and healthcare.
A concert of the Moscow folk song collective was held at the Bangkok Cultural Center as part of the promotion of Russian culture abroad. The performance was dedicated to the tragic events at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow. More than 300 spectators came to see the skill of Russian performers.
During the trip to Bangkok, the delegation from Moscow visited the Asian Institute of Technology, which is a university with a focus on engineering and the environment. Students undergo research and information programs that allow them to hold high positions not only in Asia, but also abroad. Following the meeting, the parties agreed for detailed study of cooperation between the Asian Institute of Technology and other universities in Moscow.
The main event of the visit was the conference “Innovations in education: a view from Moscow and Bangkok”, dedicated to topical issues of innovation in the field of education. The event was attended by leading experts, representatives of academic and government circles from the capitals of Russia and Thailand. Welcoming remarks were made by Moscow Government Minister Sergey Cheremin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Thailand Evgeny Tomikhin and Director of the Department of Educational Technologies of the Bangkok Department of Education Chanin Phuengbun na Ayudhya.
The delegation from Moscow presented the capital’s education system, the Moscow Electronic School and the main directions of digitalization of the industry. During the event, reports and presentations on current topics in the field of education were announced, including practices on the use of educational robotics and the use of neural networks to create educational content.
During the official visit, a visit to Navamin University in Bangkok took place. Cooperation with the University is the most promising for Moscow Metropolitan Governance Yury Luzhkov University. The leadership of the Bangkok educational institution warmly accepted the initiative to organize friendly exchanges, as well as internships and professional development programs for civil servants of the two cities.
During the visit to Thailand, representatives of Moscow organized a brief visit to the northern economic capital of the country, Chiang Mai, where meetings were held with Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai Sunthorn Yamsiri and Governor of Chiang Mai Province Nirat Phongsittitavorn. The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Moscow and Chiang Mai in a number of areas: tourism, culture and social development, economy and investment. The city administration emphasized its interest in continuing cooperation with Moscow and Russian companies implementing projects in the field of prevention and elimination of consequences of emergencies and fire extinguishing.
The talks in Chiang Mai became an important step towards diversifying contacts between the Russian capital and the regions of Thailand, which occupy leading positions in the economy and IT. It is important to continue cooperation, which will lead to the invitation of the leadership of the city and the region to major international events in Moscow.
During visit to Thailand, the head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, Sergey Cheremin, held a number of meetings with representatives of UN agencies. They discussed issues of the environment, urbanization, digital infrastructure and transport development. Hamza Ali Malik, Director of the Department of Macroeconomic Policy and Development Finance at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), offered to share Moscow’s success and experience of sustainable development in a number of planned events. He believes that it is necessary to promote the Moscow cases and disseminate information about what Russia and Moscow can offer for mutual learning and exchange of experience.
Hamza Ali Malik sees the need for facilitating conversation, illustrative examples and reducing disinformation around Russia. He offers to share his tangible stories and successes in the field of sustainable development. Sergey Cheremin expressed Moscow’s willingness to share its experience with the international community and noted its interest in participating in events on the ESCAP platform.
The Minister of the Moscow Government also spoke about Moscow’s interaction with UN-Habitat and outlined Moscow’s major achievements – the development of the transport system, the issue of green bonds, the environmental situation, and the renovation program. Cheremin clarified that Moscow intends to continue to work closely with the UN mission and actively share its development successes with all countries of the world.
