Moscow and the Republic of Belarus Sign Roadmap for 2024–2026

During a visit by a Minsk delegation to the Russian capital, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, Sergei Cheremin, met with First Deputy Chairperson of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Nadezhda Lazarevich, to discuss promising areas of cooperation between the two cities.

“Minsk has been and remains a strategic partner for Moscow. Our cities and peoples are bound by long-standing ties of friendship and collaboration. The opportunity to implement key infrastructure projects and leverage Moscow’s best practices in vital municipal sectors is of particular interest to us,” stated Sergei Cheremin.

The head of the Department noted the steady growth in trade between Moscow and Minsk. According to data from the first half of 2023, trade turnover between Moscow-based companies and Belarusian partners increased by 37.6% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching $9.8 billion. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening trade and economic ties.

The meeting also addressed plans for “Days of Moscow in Minsk” in spring 2024. The event will include a Moscow–Belarus Business Cooperation Forum, as well as a series of cultural and sporting activities.

Another promising area of collaboration is education. Nadezhda Lazarevich expressed interest in adopting Moscow’s “Moscow Electronic School” (MES) digital platform into Minsk’s education system.

Additionally, the parties signed a “Cooperation Action Plan (Roadmap) between the Republic of Belarus and Moscow for 2024–2026” and a joint statement on transport cooperation.

The roadmap outlines joint projects aimed at enhancing trade and economic relations, as well as closer collaboration in science, education, utilities, sports, media, and healthcare.
