Photo Exhibition “Shipibo-Conibo: Portraits of My Blood” Opens at VDNH
On July 16, 2025, the pavilion “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman” at VDNH hosted the grand opening of the photo exhibition “Shipibo-Conibo: Portraits of My Blood”, dedicated to the culture and heritage of Peru’s indigenous Shipibo-Conibo people. The project was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Peru in Russia with the support of the Government of Moscow, the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, and the Moscow Center for International Cooperation.
The ceremony opened with a video message from the project’s author, Peruvian photographer David Díaz, who through his works tells the story of the traditions and everyday life of the Shipibo-Conibo community living along the Ucayali River.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Russian Federation, Mr. Juan del Campo, delivered a welcome address, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural diversity and expressing gratitude to the Russian side for its support in organizing the exhibition.
Deputy Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, Vyacheslav Manuilov, emphasized that the exhibition is part of the Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Festival, whose purpose is to foster dialogue between nations, create a space for exchanging experience, knowledge, and ideas, and showcase the beauty of artistic traditions from around the world. In his remarks, he stressed the significance of cultural exchange and Peru’s contribution to strengthening humanitarian ties: “We may be located on opposite sides of the globe, but this does not prevent us from showing genuine and friendly interest in one another and, of course, from developing cooperation. Moscow maintains strong partnership relations with Lima.”
Following the official ceremony, visitors explored the exhibition, which immerses audiences in the unique world of Amazonian culture, revealing the rituals, traditions, and daily life of the Shipibo-Conibo people.
The exhibition runs from July 17 to 30, 2025.
