Moscow presented its achievements at the 10th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development

As part of the visit of the delegation of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow to the 10th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development in Bangkok (Kingdom of Thailand) from March 27 to April 4, 2023 the Moscow Center for International Cooperation held a round table on the implementation of measures in the field of sustainable development for the period up to 2030. This event was organized jointly with United Nations Association of Russia. The main topic of the forum was socio-economic support measures for recovery after the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030 at all levels in the Asia-Pacific region.

The achievements of the Russian capital were presented at the exhibition “Moscow: Current results and prospects for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”. In particular, such successful projects as “Clean Water and Sanitation”, “Industrialization, Innovation and Infrastructure”, “Sustainable cities and human settlements”, “Partnership for Sustainable Development” were demonstrated.

The Moscow delegation established new partnerships and exchanged innovative experiences with representatives of government authorities and the business community of the largest megacities of the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, meetings were held with the Bangkok City Administration, the Bangkok Federation of Industrialists and representatives of the country’s business community.

The successful visit of the Moscow delegation ended with the signing of a cooperation program between Moscow and Bangkok for the period from 2023 to 2025. On behalf of the Moscow government, the agreement was signed by the Minister, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergei Cheremin, from the Thai side — Deputy Governor of Bangkok Chakkaphat Phiungam.

As Sergei Cheremin noted: “In the new program, we have paid much more attention to details in the development of cooperation in a number of areas: trade and economic ties, cultural relations, tourism, innovative projects. It is especially important for both capitals to develop cooperation in the application of digital technologies in all spheres of city life in order to remain competitive in the modern world.”

The new program also provides for joint events to support entrepreneurship and local business in Moscow and Bangkok. It is planned to organize international conferences, exhibitions, round tables and festivals to exchange experience on the introduction and development of, for example, electronic public services and smart city technologies in the field of education, healthcare, and transport services.

During the visit, an international golf tournament was also organized with the participation of the Moscow team, a round table to support compatriots, a photo exhibition and performances by Moscow masters of art.

The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development is held annually under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and is an intergovernmental forum and regional platform to support countries in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) UN until 2030. The Forum aims to identify regional trends and difficulties in achieving the SDGs and share experiences. In 2023, the event will be held at the UN Conference Center in Bangkok.
