Moscow Delegation to Pay Business Visit to Algeria
A Moscow delegation headed by Sergey Cheremin, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow, will make a business visit to Algeria from April 29 to May 2, 2026. The purpose of the trip is to develop interregional cooperation, expand trade and economic ties, and strengthen cultural contacts between Moscow and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. Algeria is one of the Russian capital’s priority partners in North Africa and consistently features prominently in Moscow’s foreign economic and international agenda.
The delegation’s visit will help strengthen institutional dialogue between Moscow and Algerian partners – high‑level talks are planned. During the meetings, the sides will discuss promising areas of cooperation and new joint projects. A significant event during the visit will be a conference with the participation of business circles to discuss the development of trade and economic ties between Moscow and Algeria.
Business cooperation between the Russian capital and Algeria showed significant growth in 2025. Trade turnover between Moscow‑based companies and Algerian partners increased by 167.6% compared to 2024, reaching $1.5 billion. Moscow actively exports heavy machinery, ferrous metals, electrical machinery and equipment, tools and optical instruments, and land transport vehicles to Algeria. Algeria supplies Moscow mainly with food products, particularly fruits and nuts, heavy machinery, tools and optical instruments, and chemical industry goods. The conference will help identify priority sectors for cooperation and diversify trade turnover. The plenary session will be followed by B2B meetings and negotiations, allowing Moscow companies to present their capabilities, exchange experience with Algerian colleagues, and explore new forms of partnership.
A conference will also be held with compatriots living in Algeria to discuss effective formats for promoting the Russian language and culture abroad, as well as joint initiatives for further developing international dialogue.
The visit program also includes cultural events. A concert by the Festival Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Antonenko is scheduled as part of the 15th International Festival of Symphonic Music at the Boualem Bessaih Opera House in Algiers. The ensemble will also perform at the Constantine Regional Theatre, performing masterpieces of Russian classical music for the Algerian audience.
Cooperation between Moscow and Algeria is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023. The parties are jointly implementing transport and infrastructure projects, promoting trade and economic interaction – including in industrial products, microelectronics, and IT solutions – establishing direct business contacts through business missions and exhibitions, and cooperating in education and culture.
