Moscow to Share Best Practices at BRICS International Municipal Forum

On June 11, a press conference was held at TASS to announce the upcoming BRICS International Municipal Forum in Moscow, scheduled for August 27-28. Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, outlined how the capital will showcase its best practices during the event.

“All Russian regions, along with over 200 cities from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the CIS, are expected to participate. Discussions will cover municipal infrastructure, social development, sustainable urban planning, resource management, education, healthcare, culture, tourism, and sports. The business program will feature expert presentations, panel discussions, roundtables, and partner meetings,” Cheremin noted. He also invited Moscow’s 100+ partner cities and commercial enterprises to take part.

According to Cheremin, the forum offers a platform to share Moscow’s success story as one of the world’s most dynamically developing cities. The capital will present its expertise in infrastructure development, digital transformation, and air quality improvement. In 2022, UN-Habitat ranked Moscow first globally for infrastructure quality and fifth for public service delivery. In 2023, it led BRICS megacities in innovation-driven spatial development.

“The potential of our cooperation lies in exchanging best urban practices and fostering dialogue at the municipal level. I am confident the 2024 BRICS Municipal Forum will catalyze innovation and create opportunities for fruitful collaboration, driving economic prosperity for cities and regions across our nations,” Cheremin emphasized.

Participants highlighted the forum’s established role as a trusted platform for sharing expertise, strengthening diplomatic ties, and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation. Last year, Moscow contributed to organizing the BRICS Municipal Forum in St. Petersburg, which featured extensive expert discussions, partnership agreements, and an exhibition.
