The Moscow – Kazakhstan Business Dialogue took place in Moscow with the participation of a delegation from the Almaty Region
The delegation from the Almaty Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan visited the Russian capital, during which the “Moscow – Kazakhstan Business Dialogue” business forum was held. The event brought together representatives of government authorities, the business community, and business associations from the two regions, helping to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, digital technologies, creative industries, and tourism.
The visit began with a tour of the Moscow City Situational Center, where guests were introduced to the capital’s digital twin — a cutting-edge system for real‑time urban process management. This technology, which enables infrastructure development forecasting and enhances safety, drew great interest from the delegation as an example of smart city solutions.
At the “Moscow – Kazakhstan Business Dialogue” forum, Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations, delivered a keynote speech on behalf of Moscow. He emphasized the importance of deepening trade, economic and innovative cooperation between Moscow and the Almaty Region, noting the successful experience of implementing joint projects and the potential for further expanding the partnership. Cheremin focused on the significance of digitalization and the exchange of best practices for the sustainable development of both sides, expressing confidence that the forum would be an important step in strengthening bilateral ties. He stated:
“Moscow ranks first among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in terms of investment attractiveness. Dauren Askerbekovich highlighted the figure of $28 billion — our foreign trade turnover with Kazakhstan. Approximately one third of that, $9 billion, comes from Moscow‑based companies that have foreign economic partnerships with their counterparts in Kazakhstan.”
The event brought together business representatives, fostering dialogue on trade and economic cooperation, industrial collaboration, digital transformation, support for small and medium‑sized enterprises, as well as tourism development and cultural exchanges. Special attention was paid to innovations, where Moscow and Kazakhstan are already successfully implementing joint projects.
Economic cooperation between the regions shows steady growth. In 2024, trade turnover between Moscow‑based organizations and partners from Kazakhstan reached $8.9 billion (a 9.3% increase compared to 2023). In the first quarter of 2025, the figure grew by 14.2% to $1.9 billion, while exports from Moscow to Kazakhstan increased by 23.1% to $1.2 billion. Russia and Kazakhstan are implementing over 100 joint projects in mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, and agriculture, with investments of approximately $22 billion.
The forum proved to be an effective platform for establishing new business contacts. Moscow showcased its innovative and export potential, while the Almaty Region demonstrated its competitive advantages. As a result of the event, promising areas for cooperation were identified in trade, digitalization, creative industries, and tourism, laying the foundation for long‑term, mutually beneficial partnership.
